Guard Pass Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 9, 2026
Guard Pass is an app for keeping notes on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques. It is made by Moonriver Ventures LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use Guard Pass on Android or iOS.
In short
- Your notes, photos, videos and training log are stored on your phone. We never receive them.
- If you turn on automatic backup, they're also saved to your own Google Drive (Android) or iCloud Drive (iOS), where only you can see them. We can't see them there either.
- The app sends us anonymous crash reports and counts of which features are used. These never include your notes and never identify you.
- We don't sell your information, we don't show ads, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
Your notes stay with you
Everything you write in Guard Pass is stored only on your phone: notes, positions, moves, tags, systems, training and teaching logs, photos, videos and links. Photos and videos you take or pick for a note are copied into the app's own storage on your phone.
Your notes leave your phone only when you choose to send them somewhere:
- Backup files. When you save a backup file, it goes wherever you pick (for example a folder on your phone, Google Drive or iCloud Drive).
- Sending notes to someone. When you share notes, they go through the app you choose (for example email or a messaging app) to the people you choose. Your practice and teaching logs are left out.
- Automatic backup, if you turn it on (see below).
Automatic backup to Google Drive (Android)
Automatic backup is off until you turn it on in Settings. When you do, Guard Pass asks you to sign in with your Google account and to allow it to "see, edit, create and delete only the specific Google Drive files that you use with this app". Guard Pass can't see any other files in your Google Drive.
Guard Pass then keeps a copy of your notes, photos and videos in a "Guard Pass" folder in your Google Drive. The copy goes directly from your phone to your Google Drive. It never passes through us, and we have no access to it.
What Guard Pass gets from Google, and what it does with it:
- Your Google account's email address. It's shown in Settings so you know which account is used. It stays on your phone and is never sent to us.
- Permission to use the files Guard Pass creates in your Google Drive. It's used only to save your backup there and to read it back when you restore it.
Guard Pass's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We don't use this information for advertising, we don't sell it or transfer it to anyone, and no person reads it.
You can stop automatic backup in Settings at any time, which also signs Guard Pass out of your Google account. The backup already in your Google Drive is kept until you delete it there. You can also remove Guard Pass's access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Automatic backup to iCloud (iOS)
On iPhone and iPad, automatic backup saves a copy of your notes, photos and videos in a "Guard Pass" folder in your iCloud Drive, using your Apple account. It's stored by Apple under your account and is never sent to us. You can turn it off in Settings, and delete the folder in the Files app or in your iCloud settings.
What the app sends to us
To fix problems and improve the app, Guard Pass sends us the following through Sentry, a service for error reporting:
- Crash and error reports, and how quickly the app starts and its screens open, with technical details such as the error, the app version, and your phone's model and operating system version. They never include your notes, their titles, names you've written, photos, videos or screenshots.
- Anonymous usage counts, such as which features and screens were used on a day, whether the user has Pro or coaches, the app's language and the reason chosen after buying Pro. Each is counted at most once a day per phone, and none of them identifies you or includes anything you wrote.
- Feedback you send from Settings, including an email address if you choose to give one.
- Names you've made up, only if you allow it. If you turn on "Share the names you add" in Settings > Privacy (it's off unless you turn it on), Guard Pass sends the names of the positions, submissions, moves and sides you've made up, so future updates can include them for everyone. Only the names are sent: never your notes, and nothing that says who you are.
Crash reports and usage counts are kept for a limited time and then deleted automatically.
Purchases
Guard Pass Pro is bought through Google Play or the App Store, which handle the payment. We never see your payment details. To know whether you own Pro, the app uses RevenueCat, which receives an anonymous ID created by the app, your purchase and restore history, and which screen led to the purchase.
Other services the app contacts
- YouTube. When a note has a YouTube link, the app asks YouTube for the video's title and thumbnail to show them, which sends the link to YouTube. Google's Privacy Policy applies to that request.
- Opening links. Links you open (videos, the store page) open in your browser or the matching app.
Camera, microphone and photos
Guard Pass asks for the camera and microphone only so you can take photos and record videos for your notes, and lets you pick existing photos and videos from your library. They stay on your phone unless you back them up or send them as described above.
Deleting your data
- On your phone: Settings > Delete Everything deletes all your notes, photos and videos from the app. Uninstalling the app deletes them too.
- Backups: backup files and automatic backups are in places you control (your phone, Google Drive, iCloud Drive), and you can delete them there at any time.
- Data sent to us: crash reports, usage counts and shared names don't identify you, so we can't link them back to you. If you sent feedback with your email address and want it deleted, contact us at the address below.
Children
Guard Pass isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update it here and change the effective date above. If a change affects how your information is used, we'll also say so in the app.
